Helping clients to help themselves using person centered approach

Dr. Tim is experienced in treating various psychological problems and mood disorders, as well as helping clients in their relationship problems and personal development. He provided services for several social welfare organizations and medical clinics in Australia, China and Hong Kong. He also taught psychology courses in the City University of Hong Kong and the Bethel Bible Seminary. Dr. Tim has good experience in collaborating with psychiatrists to improve clients’ psychological coping through psychotherapy, in order to reduce clients’ need in using medications to manage the symptoms, and to reduce the chance of relapse.

Dr. Tim employs a person-centered approach in his practice with strong emphasis on evidence-based treatments. This means that Dr. Tim would work collaboratively with clients in understanding your issues and working out treatment plans that best suit your unique circumstances and personal needs. The choice of treatment is informed by the most updated scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of therapy. Dr. Tim seeks to help each client not only to achieve symptom relieve, but also to understand the origin of your issues and mastering the skills needed to resolve the problems, so that you may continue to maintain a healthy psychological well-being and better quality of life by using what you learned in therapy in the rest of your life after completing treatment.

 

 
Assessments and Treatments

Dr. Tim provides psychological assessment and treatment for a wide range of psychological problems. Some of the common ones are listed in the following:

  1. Mood disorders including: depression, social and generalized anxiety disorders, phobia, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, excessive anger, grief and loss.
  2. Sleeping problems, psychosomatic issues and chronic pain; for example, headache, dizziness, irritable bowel syndromes, and muscle pain due to chronic stress.
  3. Posttraumatic stress disorder and adjustment disorders, resulting from life threatening events or accidents.
  4. Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, personality disorders and eating disorders.
  5. Serious mental illness: collaboration with psychiatrist to provide combined medical and psychological treatments for schizophrenia, psychosis and bipolar disorders.
  6. Addiction problems including: alcohol and drug abuse, behavioral addictions like problem gambling, sex addiction, or internet addiction.
  7. Marriage and family relationship: pre-marital assessment and counseling, marriage and family therapy, and parenting issues.
  8. Child and adolescent issues: emotional and behavioral problems, learning difficulties, development disorders like autism, Asperger syndrome, and ADHD.
  9. Psychological assessments including: mood, personality, dementia, autism, ADHD and various neuropsychological assessments.
